Woods 1 #921 

Do you like to work and build things with your hands? This introductory class is designed to give students’ knowledge and hands on experiences in woodworking. Students will learn about materials used in woodworking, measurement and layout, reading project plans, machine safety rules, how to safely operate woodworking machinery (planer, jointer, table saw, radial arm saw, band saw, jig saw, drill press, and portable router), squaring a board, gluing up stock, woodworking joints, and finishing processes. Majority of the class time will be working in the Woodworking Lab.

Woods 2 #922 

This intermediate woodworking class is designed to give students’ more in-depth knowledge and hands on experiences in woodworking. Students will continue to learn about wood materials used in manufacturing, measurement and layout, project plans, machine safety, how to perform complex operations on the various types of woodworking machinery (planer, jointer, table saw, radial arm saw, band saw, jig saw, drill press, and portable router), squaring & gluing up stock, sharpening & repairing tools, complex woodworking joints, and finishing processes. Majority of the class time will be working in the Woodworking Lab. Students who pass Woods-2 will earn a Woodworking Career Alliance-Sawblade Industry Certification. This course qualifies for transcripted credit at Western Technical College.

Woods 3 #923 

The purpose of this class is to give students a chance to further expand their woodworking knowledge and skills. 

Students will get the chance to research, plan, and build a piece of furniture in this class. Students will learn about lathe operations, frame and panel construction, furniture doors, and leg and rail construction. The major portion of class time will be spent working on a large and complex individual woodworking project. Students who pass Woods-3 will earn a Woodworking Career Alliance-Sawblade Industry Certification.

Construction #927 

The purpose of this class is to give students a chance to learn about different areas of building construction. Students will learn how to operate and safely use various portable power tools, practice safety on the job, learn about footings and foundations, framing (floors, walls, ceilings), roofing, prefabricated construction and careers in construction. Students will be working on various construction projects in and around the school and for members of the New Lisbon School District. Majority of class time will be working in the lab on various projects. Students who pass Construction will earn a Woodworking Career Alliance-Sawblade Industry. This course qualifies for transcripted credit at Western Technical College.

Design & Engineering 1 #941 

The purpose of this course is to give students a basic understanding of concepts and techniques surrounding drafting, design, and engineering. Students will be exposed to available careers in the industry, learn to draw technically using traditional drafting techniques and available CAD programs. Students will be given real world challenges to design, engineer, and test their solutions.

Design & Engineering 2 #942 

This course is designed to give students an in-depth understanding of concepts and techniques surrounding drafting, design, and engineering. Students will be exposed to careers and technology available in the design and engineering industry. Students will learn advanced drafting techniques, how to read and interpret blueprints, how to draw complex parts and learn how to use multiple CAD programs. Students will be given real world challenges to design, engineer, and test their solutions.

Design & Engineering 3 #943 

The purpose of this class is to give students a chance to further expand their designing skills through various CAD and CNC programs and projects. Majority of the class time will be spent working on independent challenging design projects.

Welding-1 

This introductory course is designed to help students develop basic mechanical knowledge and skills used in the welding fabrication industry. Basic Welding skills and metal fabrication activities will be emphasized through exercises and hands on projects and labs. This course will provide the student with a variety of welding skills. Course topics include: career opportunities, basic metallurgy, types of metal fabrication, mathematics used in metal fabrication, project layout, metal laboratory safety, metal working hand tools, metalworking power tools, SMAW Welding, GMAW Welding, plasma arc, and tool repair and maintenance. This course qualifies for transcripted credit at Western Technical College.

Welding-2 

This intermediate course is designed to help students develop complex mechanical knowledge and skills used in the welding fabrication industry. Higher level Welding skills and metal fabrication activities will be emphasized through exercises and hands on projects and labs. This course will provide the student with a wide variety of welding skills. Welding-3 

The purpose of this advanced fabrication class is to give students a chance to further expand their welding and 

fabrication skills. Advanced Welding skills and metal fabrication activities will be emphasized through exercises and hands on projects. Topics include: career opportunities, metallurgy, metal fabrication, project layout, machine safety, metal working hand tools, metalworking power tools, SMAW Welding, GMAW Welding, GTWA Welding, Oxyacetylene Welding, CNC Plasma Arc Cutting, and tool repair and maintenance. Students will be given the opportunity to research, plan, and build a project for this class.

Maintenance Assistant 

The Maintenance Assistant position is available to a senior student who has passed all required classes needed to graduate, has great school attendance, has a 2.0 or higher G.P.A. and has taken the following T&E courses-Woods 1,2, and Welding 1, 2. The student will assist the New Lisbon Maintenance Department in various jobs, repairs, and activities that improve the New Lisbon School District. Responsibilities will include machine maintenance and repair, organizing and lab upkeep, performing safety and clean up checks, and individualized maintenance projects. The purpose of position is to give “hands on” learners students more responsibility and challenges working with the New Lisbon Maintenance Department.
